Getting to know my student!
On day 1, I got to meet Sunny, a 5th grade student, and get to know her interests and how she feels about reading. Sunny completed the interest inventory that I had made and from that I was able to learn a lot about it along with a conversation. She has four dogs and really enjoys to read about dogs or stories with dogs in them. In her free time she enjoys bowling and playing with her dogs. Some of her favorite books are Runaway Twin, Wonder, Junie B. Jones books and Magic Tree. Sunny says she does not like reading on her free time or content related text; she said if it's not interesting to her she doesn't like to read it and struggles to comprehend the text. When she isn't interested she says she gets distracted which takes longer to read the material. When participating in a read aloud, she feels like that is when she makes more mistakes and she's more nervous. Sunny does though enough reading with a partner and being able to discuss the book with them.
****Sunny is not the real name of the student, but the name of the main character in her favorite book! Through the blogs, my student will be documented as Sunny.
